MY SELF AS A LEADER

Great leaders have existed for many years and they are remembered through their successes and failures. There are a few leaders that inspire others to be better than those before, the likes of Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi taught me to be patient.

Richard Branson, the CEO of the Virgin Empire teaches me to listen to those bellow me as that’s the key to his successful business empire.

I myself as a leader would rely on the help of those below me to make anything possible in our objectives be it improving the student services in Limkokwing Universty. Like most leaders I would inspire the best out of the staff so as they are able to perform better and improve there relations to the students.

I would listen to the staff and students and be patient with them to provide me with feedback so as to have a working open dialog, which leads to great communication and leading to better problem solving.

I would delegate authority to those directly below me and empower them with responsibilities to create an even plain to which they are comfortable to approach me for assistance and guidance when needed. This would ensure more opportunities for me to bounce ideas off my colleges and get solutions that are within their power or capacity to accomplish.

I would be social and approachable to my colleges, as I would invite them to team building exercise like retreats, cocktail parties and fun team building activities like bowling and paint ball.  

I would create awards that would motivate both lecturers and students to do better i.e. special gift baskets that come with a 2-day holiday for the most hardworking lecturers and many more.

To maintain the reputation of Limkokwing Universty of Creative Technology as the most creative Higher Learning Institution in Malaysia, I would introduce monthly events that are designed to challenge the students to think of new solutions to the growing demand of new and efficient technology. These events would be open to other students from other learning institutions to give it an edge and exposure to other student’s knowledge.

In support of the Global Classroom program, which exposes students to the leading companies and leading people in their professions, I would suggest opening all campuses of Limkokwing Universty around the world to provide more flexibility for students to choose from without bearing high expenses but more expose to the global industry.

Currently Limkokwing Universty is the most diverse university in Malaysia in terms of multi national students therefore I would suggest making a free will program that links students from different countries with each other to make friends or buddies that will expose them to different cultures so us to be aware and more informed about different regions of the world, hence preparing them for global employment.

I would create a student-to-student aid program that helps new students transition to the Limkokwing Universty lifestyle and Malaysian culture. i.e the old students would share some experiences they have had in Malaysia and some brief guide lines about the does and don’ts of living in Malaysia as well as how to best succeed at the university .

I would create a program or an event where different officials from the police and hospitals explain to students the procedures taken when something occurs that require their professions i.e. if your are at the hospital or police station you know what to do.

I would create a career week event with the leading companies in all programs taught at universities and invite experts to speak and advise students as to be better informed and more motivated to strive higher.

I would create a themed semester based innovation and creativity competition where students create their work based on the theme and displayed for professionals to examine and critic it. This would challenge students to be creative.

Leadership is teamwork. As leader you are unable to do everything yourself so you delegate work. Good leadership is good teamwork therefore you identify and acknowledge your weakness and then those of your team. Trust your team to do a good job and thank them for it.

A leader should have clear vision for their path to success as well as be creative and innovative to solve problems along the way and inspire those he leads as shown in the picture above.

Teamwork – A Leader needs good teamwork. You can’t lead a huge campus like Limkokwing Universty Cyberjaya without having support. You work with your colleges by delegating duties and responsibilities so as to have effective leadership.
